History
In 1979, the only Indoor Bowls Centre in West Kent was a sub-standard, two-rink facility in Tunbridge Wells. A small delegation of bowlers decided to change this situation and, with the help of the Local Authority, a site was secured. The Angel (Tonbridge) Indoor Bowls Association became incorporated and bowling commenced in a brand new purpose-built, six-rink facility on 21st October 1981.
Disaster struck in the Autumn of 2000, when several feet of water from the River Medway surged into the Centre, causing massive damage. The Centre had to be closed and entirely refurbished. This included a renovated concrete bowling base, a new wooden floor (which has 80,000 screws in it!), new underlay and a new bowling carpet. Despite being closed for nearly eight months the membership held together and, with the co-operation of "sister" clubs, managed to honour away fixtures and many were able to play national and county competitions at away venues.
The Centre re-opened in the summer of 2001 and since then the Club has gone from strength to strength.
