Junior News
The number of juniors on our register has swelled to 30, which is very encouraging indeed, and we have had a very busy summer! You might like to know that several of our younger members have also enjoyed the experience of outdoor bowling. JAMES BROOKER travelled to Coventry to take part in the Finals of the All-England Youth Development Bowling Scheme and, even though he did not win, he said that the experience was “awesome”! GEORGE BRILEY joined Sevenoaks outdoor bowls club, and played 18 friendly games. He was also invited to the Kent Under-25’s trials, and played two friendlies for them, the first at Blackheath and Greenwich, and the second at Hartley. He also played in a mixed triples league, and entered club competitions, and in his words “it was a great experience playing outdoor bowls”. GREG CHALKLIN joined Tunbridge Wells outdoor club, and played in several friendly matches. He also entered their Club Competitions, and was drawn with Sheila Huggett in the Mixed Pairs competition, losing in the Final against Duncan Hanmore and his partner. He drew Mick Milgate as his skip in the Pairs Competition, and won the final against Phil and Roger Colyer. The climax of his outdoor season was losing the final of the Laurie Austin Cup to his father, BRIAN! Not only this, Greg continued to play indoors in the summer, and lost in the final of the Unrestricted Triples.
Selection for our Junior Invicta League games and friendlies in the winter season will be very difficult, and will be handled by Eric Smith and Doug Cook. We do not envy them their task, as so many of our youngsters are improving their level of performance and understanding of the game.
